The Little Hunter

Title

The Little Hunter

Description

Buhot remembered the image of his Autumn Morning and decided, many years later, to return to the subject, but now in lithography. In contrast to the much smaller and earlier etching, the lithograph presents the appearance of a crayon drawing, far less concerned with subtle gradations of tone and focusing instead on the drama of sunrise and the play of light across the landscape. In addition, the beginnings of marginal commentary make an appearance and change the very nature of the image.

The first-state impressions, printed in black, are quite rare. Impressions of the better-known second state were printed in grey-green.
