Marine Painter
Title
Marine Painter
Description
With the addition of large, intimidating birds in the sky, a darkening of the image, and brightening of the highlights, the scene becomes a surreal phantasmagoria, tempting the viewer to regard the print as an allegory of life and its dangers. In almost the center of the sky we can barely make out what appears to be a face, the two eyes focused on the walking figure. The god of the storm? If the fantasy inherent in Buhot’s view of the world is often subtle, or even hidden, here it is clearly front and center.
