Geese
Title
Geese
Description
Comparison of two impressions (the first and final state) reveals how completely distinct they are, as if two different artists, working side by side, interpreted the same scene. With the addition of etching and more detail, the final plate becomes a different work entirely, and, typical for Buhot, we become aware of a particular place, a time of day, and specific weather conditions. A second flock of geese has been added as a compositional change for balance, but the appearance of specific terrain and vegetation now defines a place—as clearly as architectural details define a cityscape. Buhot, a cosmopolitan, was in love with both city and country.
